John Waters is a filmmaker, writer, and cultural icon known as the Pope of Trash. His work lives in the world of camp, outsiders, and shock value, but always with heart. From cult classics like Pink Flamingos to Hairspray, he has spent decades celebrating people and stories that do not fit neatly into the mainstream.
Beyond film, John Waters is also known for his personality: sharp, funny, deeply self-aware, and proudly weird. He is someone who does not just tolerate eccentricity, he worships it. For years, he has taken that spirit into real life by hosting an adult summer camp in Kent, Connecticut. Think classic sleepaway camp, but reimagined through a John Waters lens. Movie screenings, performances, themed parties, and outdoor camp activities, all with John Waters included. Past guest stars have included Debbie Harry of Blondie, Kathleen Turner, and Ricki Lake, among others.
The camp has been running since 2017, with a short pause during COVID, and has become a cult favorite for fans who want to fully step into his world. Sadly, John Waters has announced that 2026 will be the final year of the camp. Get your tickets while you can.
