Being a lifelong television and film fanatic made this project instinctive. I have been drawn to sci-fi and horror since childhood, sneaking classics and upcoming releases the moment I could work a remote control. That early obsession shaped how I consume and connect with stories today.
As a long-time viewer of Netflix’s Stranger Things, created by the Duffer Brothers and starring Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, and Finn Wolfhard, among others, I wanted to highlight films and television series that share a strong sense of suspense, out-of-this-world occurrences, and interconnectedness, especially now that we have had to say goodbye to our friends in Hawkins, Indiana.
This self-assigned project was intentionally simple. I selected three films and television series that Stranger Things reminded me of and wrote brief descriptions that capture their shared essence without spoiling the plot. One selection also highlights a slightly overlooked Netflix series released just before Stranger Things made its debut.
The project began with developing the graphics and overall visual design for each page, followed by creating an appropriate title and writing concise descriptions explaining why each work closely relates to Stranger Things.

1. Super 8 (2011)
Set in 1979 in the fictional town of Lillian, Ohio, Super 8 follows a group of middle-school friends who spend their summer filming a homemade zombie movie on Super 8 film. While shooting late one night, they accidentally capture a catastrophic train crash—unleashing a mysterious force that begins to terrorize their town. Much like Stranger Things, the film blends youthful camaraderie, small-town suspense, and sci-fi horror through a nostalgic lens.
2. Storm of the Century (1999)
Taking place on Little Tall Island, a small, isolated town off the coast of Maine, Storm of the Century unfolds as a massive nor’easter cuts off power, communication, and any chance of escape. As fear spreads, a mysterious stranger named André Linoge arrives and deliberately gets himself arrested after committing violent acts. While the adults struggle to maintain order, the story quietly centers on the town’s children and the unsettling idea that innocence and potential may hold more power than anyone realizes.
3. Sense8 (2015)
Sense8 follows eight strangers from cities around the world who suddenly become mentally and emotionally connected and are able to share thoughts, skills, pain, and memories across vast distances. As they begin to grasp the depth of their connection, they are hunted by a powerful organization that considers sensates a danger to society.
